CHARTER OF PHISO

Peeky Hill Social Organization

 

Peeky Hill Social Organization (PHISO) was founded in order to improve the economic and educational conditions in the hills. Nepal is a mountainous country where 44% of the people live in the hills in small hamlets. Most of the population suffers from food deficiency and lack of education in Nepal.

 

The Aim of PHISO is

 

  • To construct primary schools and to create adult literacy classes.
  • To offer free education, free distribution of educational materials and to provide all other basic needs for the students during their academic studies.
  • To assist the village community in development projects
  • To improve life-standards by generating additional income through tourism
  • To help preserving the languages, customs and culture of the Sherpa community.

 

PHISO's Activities

 

  • PHISO has Publish a first Sherpa Language dictionary named "Shewi Chhik Dzo" as a first step to preserve the Sherpa language which is limited to the spoken language only. The Sherpa language book is readable in 3 languages, the Sherpa, English and Nepali.
  • PHISO has released Calendars for year 2006/07/08/09 (high-lighting the Himalayan festival events) for its fund rising program.NOTE: above products are distributed in all Nepal especially to the school, monastic schools and trekking agencies.
  • In 2007/8 PHISO has constructed a School at Golla Village of Goli-8, Solukhumbu. The School is running actively with 32 children, form March 2008.
  • PHISO has release series of posters and pamphlets in Kathmandu and Solukhumbu, requesting, not to use the raw incense (plants and flowers found above 3400-4000 meters of Himalayan regions) to help to protect the sensitive Himalayan environment. The maximum use of raw incense has endangered to this kink of rear plants.
  • As a part of effort to uplift the economy of entire local community of this area through tourism PHISO has distributed an informative calendar 2009. Two trekking itineraries and detail information of this area to 200 major trekking agencies, requesting to include the trekking and cultural routes of this area in their sales programs.
  • PHISO in soon releasing a course book for school Children (also in 3 languages) the Sherpa, English and Nepali.

 

 

In order to fulfill its mission, PHISO has launched various social projects in the hills as well as in Kathmandu city. Local and international volunteers are encouraged to take part in workshops organized at local level. To support its programs financially, PHISO developed various income generating activities. However, it remains dependant from generous donations from Nepali and International donors. Any organization or individual interested in supporting us is most welcome.
